Using Your Website To Make Money
You have your site up and running and you decide you want to use your site to make money.
What can you do? There are a few options such as Google AdSense or affiliate programs. Everyone uses Adsence but unless your site has a ton of traffic you will probably be making pennies. Better keep your day job if you rely on Adsense. Affiliates are another way to earn money. You place an advertisement on your site for a company and you get a percentage of what you sell. Some affiliates make alot of money some don’t it really depends on what you choose to advertise. I can’t stress this point enough, and i learned through my own experience that not all companies are honest. So before you choose a company and join their affiliate program Google the company name and affiliate complaints. Its something i failed to do and because of that we lost big commisions that we worked very hard to get.
Google affitiate programs or networks and check out all the sites. Once you have found one that you like fill out an application. Some of them ok you right away some take a few hours or a few days. Once it is approved, you’ll be given some HTML code which you can cut and paste into your web page. Note that some affiliate networks and programs will not accept you unless you have your own domain name. If you are planning to earn from your site, you should seriously consider registering your own domain name.
Don’t choose an affiliate program according to the payment scheme, choose one according to the kind of people who will be visiting your site. If your site is targeting a specific thing than link to affiliates who have something to do with what your site is about. the most important thing is to know your target audience.
Don’t join every affiliate program that you come across. Join small number test them out in different positions in your site. You can always change if you find they don’t meet your earning expectations.
Remember affiliate companies usually pay once a month. But if they have a 30 day money back guarentee that means you wont get paid till the first of the month after the 30 days has passed. Most companies wont write a check unless your commissions reach 100 dollars.
